Tree To Table At Rogue Farms
We are officially exhaling at Rogue Farms in Tygh Valley.
There’s only about a week left in the month of May and our orchard crops are in excellent shape. Lots of good-looking apples, cherries, plums, pears and apricots.
May hasn’t always been so kind to us.
Back in 2013 and 2012, we lost most of our orchard crops to severe frosts that hit us in the months of May. We haven’t had a cherry crop worth picking in three years. But the outlook for the rest of the month calls for above normal temperatures and the setting fruits are large enough to handle any cold weather surprises.
Here’s an early look at what we’re growing.
This part of Oregon is famous for its orchard crops and the area is known as the state’s “fruit loop”. The county where we’re located, Wasco County, is the state’s top producer for cherries.
But as we learned in the previous two years, the right terroir is no guarantee of success. Thank goodness Mother Nature is blessing us this year with wonderful weather. We can’t wait to see what John Maier does with these sweet ingredients in our proprietary palate of flavors.
The days are getting longer and warmer. The hops, barley, wheat, pumpkins, jalapeños, honey, botanicals and fruits are growing. Come out to Rogue Farms this spring and see how we grow beer and spirits.
