How to Find the Hopyard By Air, Land and Sea:
By Air: The nearest general aviation airport is the Independence State Airport, a mile northwest of town. The airport has a 3,000 long, 60′ foot wide asphalt runway, handling about 87 trips per day and housing nearly 200 aircraft. Facilities include self-serve 100LL aviation fuel.
FAA Identifier: 7S5
Coordinates: 44-52.017500N / 123-11.894833W
By Land: Our address is 3590 Wigrich Road, Independence, Oregon, 97351 – about seven miles, via paved roads, southeast of Independence or five miles northeast of Buena Vista. We offer free valet parking for bicyclists and horse riders.
By Sea: Guests are welcome to land their boats, kayaks and canoes at our private beach on the Willamette River during their visit. However, the beach cannot be used for taking in and putting out watercraft. The beach is between mileposts 101 and 102, about four miles downriver from the Buena Vista Ferry. Camping is not allowed on the beach.

Can we bring our 2 year old to the Salmon Bake?
Yes. Rogue Farms does not engage in age discrimination.
Love it!! See you there 🙂
Is there a marker or sign on the Willamette to let us know where we can land our kayaks to visit the farm? We are planning a trip from Albany or Buena Vista to Independence and would like to stop by.
Look for the Chatoe Rogue sign on the riverbank. You’re welcome to park your canoes and kayaks on the beach at the sign.
Are pets allowed? I see that you have critters and want to be sure it’s alright to bring our dog along.
Dear Andrea,
Rogue Farms is dog friendly. All we ask is that dog owners keep their pets under control in case they don’t get along with other dogs, and so the dogs don’t chase our poultry.
Hope to see you soon!

If we want to cycle out to the independence farm, is there somewhere near by we can camp?
Hi Joseph,
There’s no camping at the farm and not much to choose from nearby. If you want to paddle your way here, there are two primitive campgrounds just south of here on the Willamette River. Take a look at the Willamette River Water Trail map for more information. We’ve never seen these campsites and have no idea what conditions are like at these two spots.
Thanks,
Rogue Farms
This is a little better map of the area around Rogue on the Willamette, also from the Willamette River Water Trail.

Thanks Kate for showing this to us!

Planning to stop by Sunday afternoon. Are you doing tours of the facilities these days? Any other events going on at the Chateau this weekend? Thanks!
KT
Hi KT,
We’re open 11am to 8pm this Sunday with a tour of the Farm scheduled for 3pm. Looking forward to seeing you!
Rogue Farms
Are you open for farm tours this weekend, Nov. 22-23? I am interested in seeing hop bines and maybe collecting some of the waste bines for papermaking. I read in an old book that hop vines can be used for hand papermaking.
Hi Jane,
We’re open both days this weekend from 11am to 8pm, with tours at 3pm. We love the idea of making paper from bines, but we harvested this year’s crop of hops two months ago and have mulched all the leftover bines.

Hi Steve,
Paddlers are welcome to use our beach and come in for a beer during a trip, but not as launch or take out site.
As for your other questions, check out the Willamette Water Trail website. Lots of good maps and other info.

Is there any way to purchase some of your honey? I would LOVE to try it!
Hi James,
Our 7,140,298 Rogue Farms honeybees appreciate your interest in their honey. But for now, we’re setting it aside for John Maier to brew more Honey Kolsch, 19 Original Colonies Mead and Marionberry Braggot.
Thank you,

Do you guys serve food at the farm?
Hi John,
Yes we serve food, along with our farm grown beer and spirits.
We have a menu on our Facebook page, but the offerings may change according to the season.
Thanks,
Rogue Farms
If we canoe to Rogue Farms, are there taxis to take one of us back to our car at Buena Vista Ferry? I don’t think I can paddle four miles back up against the river current! 🙂
Hi Olivia,
Although paddlers are welcome to stop on our beach while visiting the farm, we don’t allow people to use it as put in or take out location.
Rogue Farms
Just to educate you a little, the Independence airport has ONE runway oriented north to south. You can land at either end (thus your confusion of saying it has 2 runways). Pilots already know this anyway. Just thought you could update your website to be accurate.
From the pilot
Thanks for the information, we updated the website!

We paddled by the Chatoe this morning on our way to Independence but didn’t know what was there or if we could land there and visit? Is there food/drink available at tbe farm?
Hi Pat,
Paddlers are welcome to park on our beach and visit Rogue Farms. The Chatoe Tasting Room is open daily during summer, and on a limited schedule after harvest season. Our hours are posted here.
Thanks for writing!

If you float in, plan to float out! There is a serious misunderstanding in the float community about what is allowed at the Hop Farm. You may not put in or take out canoes or kayaks. You may float in but must also float out. I have heard for 2 years from friends doing so and it is not allowed I discovered this week. There appears to be a lack of communication within Rogue and it definitely had an affect on customer experience. You make great beer, win awards but pretty much tell people welcome, do not let the rock salt hit you in the ass on the way out!
While doing the Eugene Ale Trail with friends we had a truly bad customer experience in the Eugene location that pretty much said your money is more welcome than you.
I love Rogue beers but my experience has always been inconsistent at best in service.
You make great beer, you win awards, your prices are questionably high. You need to get everyone together and focus on what matters and be clear in all you communicate outside as well as inside. Thanks for the beer, but there are other greats out there!
Hi Rich,
Thank you for your e-mail. We will make modifications to the website and blog that are more specific to what we can allow on the beach and float-in/out. We are sorry that this caused you and your group confusion. I have forwarded your note about the Rogue in Eugene on to the pub General Manager. If you would like to contact him further about this, his e-mail address is timbecker@rogue.com.

Do you guys sell fresh cuts of hop vines? we’re in need of at least 10ft worth near the end of Sept. for our wedding.

Good morning, I have a steady supply of red pine and southern yellow pine 4″,5″, and 6″ treated hop posts that are warranted for 15 years. Could you send my contact along to your farm manager to see if any opportunity exists to supply your farm?
Hi Brent,
You can send us an email to: cheryl@rogue.com.
